A challenging walk taking you through open fields, wetlands, young and old growth forests and along the banks of the Pātaua estuary.

You will walk through Kahikatea (NZ tallest tree) forest, cross a salt marsh where rare Fernbirds 
are common and Bittern breed, pass through 
pre-pakeha house sites and kumera storage pits, climb through old Kauri, Puriri and Kohekohe forests on the slopes of Ohuatahi maunga and are likely to see Tomtit among many other forest bird species. This walk requires a reasonable level of fitness and appropriate footwear. There are multiple exit points if required.
